(W)REC(K) A BOOK: Evren: Enter The Dragonette

Sixteen-year-old Deli Winters wakes up, dying. A voice asks her if she wants help, no matter the cost, and she agrees. The next thing she knows, a monster is bathing her in fire.

She has become Evren: immortals with dragons for souls.

Deli is pretty, bubbly, and stubbornly optimistic. She's not what anyone would think the ideal girlfriend would be for someone like Lucian Chevalier, her gorgeous, aloof, and perpetually busy savior.

But Deli is in love with him and in between dodging the traps of Sanger High's Queen Bee and working hard at becoming an ass-kicking Evren warrior chick to avenge her parents' murders, Deli is determined to win Lucian's heart... whether he likes it or not.

- Goodreads

Evren is one of Marian Tee's earlier works. It entertained me a lot :) And it has dragons! ^_^

Deli is sweet and naive like a lot of Ms. Tee's heroines, but this particular gal is... well, she's not the brightest crayon in the box, and she knows it, which is what I like about her. :) She knows her strengths and weaknesses and works with what she has. Normally I wouldn't care too much for someone who's not the 'smart and quirky' girl, but Marian makes me like her. Deli has a good heart, and just because she isn't smart, it doesn't mean I won't like her. That's like choosing to not like someone because they aren't pretty, or outspoken. You know what I mean?

Evren are a race of half breed humans with dragon souls. They are either born or changed but only the strongest and generally oldest Evren can change into real dragons.

Lucian is the Evren who saves Deli after she and her family get attacked by Zekans, the Evren's snake-like enemy. Her parents are murdered, her sister is taken, and she is dying. She chooses to live, and there she meets the two Chavelier brothers, Lucian and his younger brother, Dyvian. Dyvian is her long lost soul twin that's sometimes-annoying-24/7-awesome. Lucian... is the complete opposite of her. And yet of the two brothers, it's Lucian she's fallen for.

The gold ones are usually bigger.
The best firepower.
Guardians of the race.
The red ones are fastest.
Highest in flight.
The blue ones are usually small.
Longest and quickest in invisibility.
The green ones are the largest.
The race's warriors.

The whole time she's learning how to be Evren, she's living with these two and constantly falling deeper and deeper in love with Lucian. It started off as a crush, but with every thought and action, it grows.

It's a shame she doesn't realize that he can hear everything she thinks.

EEKK!! lol The poor thing doesn't realize at all that they have a telepathic link together, but unfortunately, when she finally does find out, it's not on good terms.

Evren are old.

First she finds out that Lucian is several hundreds of years old- and it's a huge shocker, believe me -but it isn't that bad. She still likes him.

Evren are immortal.

This shocks her. They should've told her before, but eventually, it is forgiven.

Evren... are such assholes.

There's someone in her head who responds to her. Dubbed 'The Voice', it takes on Lucian's voice and informs her that the one in Lucian's head takes on her voice. When she asks about that, the Voice tells her that it imitates the person the host cares about the most. :3 Aw, right? Not quite.

Lucian finally caves in and kisses Deli senseless. He can't say it, but she knows that he likes her, too. But then he tells her to not tell anyone, to keep their relationship a secret. o.O And then he takes her and Dyvian to the Evren HQ, and there she meets Angelica, the Evren chick who flaunts about knowing Lucian. And when Lucian shows up, the bitch kisses Lucian! And he accepts it!

Deli, being Deli, gets mad at Angelica for going after her boyfriend, and then gets hurt when Lucian smiles at Angelica and introduces Deli as his ward. When they finally talk about it, he's really cool and almost standoffish, and they don't talk for a while. Of course, Deli still misses him and in the end they get back together. :( By this point, I've pretty much guessed what is going to happen. Deli's weakness about not being smart will come back at her over something else Lucian fucks up! And what do you know? It happens.

An emergency meeting is called for all Evren, and when they get there, Deli is told to wait on the side while he and Angelica leave to attend the meeting. It still angers her to no end, and she even mentally begs him to turn, hoping that by some miracle (she doesn't know about their mental link) he'll hear her. But he doesn't, and it majorly bums her out. She walks around and meets another turned Evren, Teresa Santos-Church. Their first meeting is great, but then Teresa tells her that the voice she hears is Lucian, not some 'voice' that came with being Evren. It freaks Deli out, but what hurts her most of all is that Lucian had heard her pleading for him to not go with Angelica, and he'd ignored her.

Evren... who needs them?

Lucian finds out about her discovery and starts apologizing and saying 'I love you', the one thing she'd always wanted to hear. IT'S TOO LATE, BUDDY! She feels so stupid for having thought he ever loved her. She leaves him and ends up going on a long travel that eventually takes her to New York. She sees her ex-boyfriend, Michael, and finds out that he still loves her after all this time. It touches her, and she tells his sleeping form to move on before deciding to contact Lucian.

In another argument/conversation with Lucian, she gets kidnapped by the enemy, and they hold her hostage. As it turns out, their prince has fallen for her sister, but there is a part of their race that is hired by her evil uncle to kidnap her sister, Davie. Why? Because Deli is old enough to inherit the family money, and the uncle wants to get rid of them in order to have it all.

Lucian comes to the rescue, and it takes a lot of groveling and sweet words before she finally trusts to tell him that she's actually missed him this whole time.

This story was very different for me because it's about a heroine who's stupid enough to not see the obvious and just as stubborn to get things her way. I loved that she was so naive and still held a good attitude about it, and I adored the way she never gave up on Lucian. Well... you know, until he fucked up. :P

I was a little annoyed with Lucian because he went with Angelica when he knew it bothered Deli. I could understand that he has trust issues, but it was wrong of him to do something that he knew would hurt her. There's no excuse for the boy. -_-

Dyvian was hilarious and a great comedic relief. And who doesn't like hot dragon shifters?

It was overall entertaining. I think I got a little too wrapped up in the drama though because as soon as she got rescued and it ended, I was like, "Wait... it ended?" lol There's no sex in this, Ally, so you can read it! Yay! :D And she goes to a high school, though for me it wasn't that important because the only drama there is the popular girl, her new friend, Audrey, and the gossip that comes with her living with the two very popular and hunky Chevalier brothers.

Happy Reading. :)
